There’s no denying that the COVID-19 pandemic forced many organizations to accelerate their digital transformation programs as customers, employees, partners and even suppliers went digital-by-default. But how many of the resulting moves constitute true business transformation vs mere digitization of operations? And how many people even understand the difference? For that matter, could it be that the term digital transformation is itself part of the problem?
These questions prompted me to revisit, refine and expand upon my ‘signature’ definition of digital transformation, which I first put into writing in 2015 and have used with clients and in keynotes ever since.
